Dan Lapsley to Speak on Charter Schools

Charter schools are at the center of a growing national discussion about education reform. Daniel Lapsley, chair of Notre Dame’s psychology department and a fellow of the University’s Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEI), will offer an introduction to this important subject in a lecture on March 9 at 7:30 pm in the auditorium of Geddes Hall.

The talk, “Charter Schools 101: What are Charter Schools and Why Should We Care about Them?”, will be open to the public and free of charge. It is sponsored by the Education, Schooling, and Society (ESS) interdisciplinary minor program and by the campus’s Education Learning Community. The ESS minor is housed within the Institute for Educational Initiatives.

Lapsley is inaugural director of the Office of Charter School Research at Ball State University. He is a distinguished scholar in the field of adolescent social, cognitive, and personality development. He is also the academic coordinator for Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), which is housed within the IEI.
